Abstract
In the present paper a modular mechanism for QoS management over the return channel of DVB-RCS satellite platforms is proposed. Main aim of the study is to contribute to the standardization research efforts towards the definition of effective QoS management policies over DVB-RCS return channels. By exploiting the proposed solutions a DVB-RCS satellite system is able to keep the throughput always at high levels while satisfying each service class negotiated QoS. Resource wasting is reduced and the performance of low priority traffics is always guaranteed through a "wasted resource reuse" mechanism implemented into the terminal. Proposed solutions are tested within a realistic platform through appropriate simulation campaigns that confirm the expected good performance.
