Abstract :
Video surveillance has been widely used in recent years for public safety and privacy protection. Video surveillance for commercial users has long been deployed in locations such as banks, automated teller machines (ATMs), supermarkets, and parking areas to enhance safety. Such kinds of surveillance system were high budget for the installation. However, video surveillance for residential users only needs one or two cameras to meet their requirements. This paper is addressed to design video surveillance system in commonly used wireless routers for residential users. The constructed system in a wireless router is built up motion detection facility to activate the recording of video images and send the real-time e-mail alert to the users or backup the recording to a remote storage via FTP. Simply add the IP CAM or Web CAM on a wireless router, the video surveillance system can be achieved. This approach reduces the cost and saves power consumption when similar functions are required to be deployed in several devices.
