Abstract

Electronic Device Descriptions (EDD) are becoming more and more important for the engineering and commissioning process of Distributed Control System (DCS). Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL) is has been the key to interoperability for millions of devices used throughout most process plants. The paper firstly introduces the background and the development history of the EDD technology. And then describes the elements and the structure of EDD file in detail. Finally the development and application of EDD for PROFIBUS PA field device based on Siemens PDM software are described.
