Abstract :
In ATM networks, there are many functions used for network management. One of these functions is the layer management protocol. The fault maintenance function of the layer management protocol transfers defects information between layer management entities to localize the path defect. An ATM device that has defects in the transmission path may initiate the ATM layer OAM flows. If we have an unsymmetrical star or ring topology ATM networks then we find out that there are some problems we can invoke normal ATM OAM flows while we deal with the defects in the transmission path. We propose an OAM flow for a hybrid structure ATM network and applied this to the DANS that was developed for the public ATM network. We show the OAM reference model and the OAM flows for the DANS that has ring topology ATM networks
