Abstract
We restrict our discussions to the real-time recognition process which defines the current state of the situation being recognised. This process must be timely and it must track the evolving situation with sufficient accuracy to support appropriate interaction. The paper first presents some current approaches to recognition within a control system design context, and then develops detailed design criteria for a real-time object based recognition system.
