Abstract
The paper describes the use of a formal optimisation procedure to determine the design of a rotor slot to obtain maximum efficiency. The method involves the use of an equivalent-circuit model coupled to a finite-element field-model to calculate machine performance. Typical results are given for a 37 kW 4 pole motor designed for three particular applications, and for a 150 kW 2 pole general purpose motor
