Abstract :
This paper intends to give an overview of possible application scenarios for next generation distributed automation and control systems based on the possibility of downtimeless reconfiguration. The basis for this paper is provided by the research project epsivCEDAC, wherein a sophisticated method for downtimeless system evolution is being developed. Domain experts from different industry branches characterize the strengths of this new approach and how they can help their company overcome typical problems of their domain insufficiently solved by current technology. The described application scenarios thereby range from the field of metallurgical plants over building automation and energy supply to engineering tool development.
