Abstract :
Wireless packet-switched communications will be one of the important technologies for future mobile data networks. In fact, packet voice can efficiently exploit voice on-off activity to improve bandwidth utilization. Such an approach has been first suggested in the packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) technique. We present a novel protocol (collision reduction PRMA, CR-PRMA) for the integration of voice and data over PRMA, which is also suitable for the wireless ATM environment. The numerical result shows that CR-PRMA has a better performance than the original PRMA and its variations. It is worth a mention that the reservation mechanism of CR-PRMA can also be introduced into any variations of the original PRMA to improve the system overall performance further
