Abstract
Radio terminals for future cognitive networking will be called to take advantage of non-contiguous, different-bandwidth portions of the radio spectrum for communications and localization functions. This paper deals with Time-of-Arrival (TOA) estimation with multi-band Filtered Multitone (FMT) signals. Strictly band-limited pulse and FMT spectral flexibility are adopted to fully exploit the available separated bandwidths, to localize cognitive radio terminals. The minimum mean squared error (MSE) in TOA estimation is evaluated by computing the modified Ziv-Zakai lower bound (MZZB) in significant cases of study.
