Abstract :
One of the best data collection techniques in scattered and widely spread forming units is sampling using area frame. This paper briefly describes estimation of area with Area Frame Sampling (AFS) which is developed In the framework of a joint research program with ITC of The Netherlands to support crop forecasting of major agricultural commodities in Iran. In this method the area of a land is considered as a frame and its units are directly bounded to geographic locations. Here, there is no question and answer. Objects of the measurements, which is land use, is directly observed by the enumerator on the land. This method has been implemented by using remotely sensed data (Landsat TM data, Aerial photographs) as base material and Global Positioning System (GPS) for more accurate positioning of segments on the ground. The results of the project showed that this method would give reliable cost effective crop area estimation
