Abstract
Detection and imaging of tunnels in any given region of ground are possible because the air that fills them is materially different from anything else underground, but challenging because of the unknown variation of the ground surface and volumetric inhomogeneities. This work presents a new implementation of the Spotlight Synthetic Aperture Radar coupled with Underground Focusing (UF-SL-SAR) algorithm based on the estimation of the rough surface and the use of the full wave Method of Moments (MoM) for the spot focusing. It is demonstrated that this method is able to attenuate the rough soil effect and improve the tunnel detection.
