Abstract
This study proposes a knowledge intensive approach for creating the Partner Network Model (PNM). The approach enables IT systems to perform partner profile management, production planning based on material arrangement, and supplier teaming simulation. Two design components are proposed using ontology and semantic rule respectively. Ontology is utilized as conceptual taxonomy for gathering factual information from partners. Semantic rule is a problem-solving method to derive implicit knowledge based on facts such as supplier profile. An example of the solar energy industry was implemented for demonstrating the advantages of the proposed design. Experimental lessons show that enterprises can take advantages of the partner network model for simulating a better supplier composition.
