Abstract
The recognition of relevant stakeholders´ participation in natural resource management process can be seen internationally. For participatory forest management, the challenge is to provide convenient ways for users to find the information they have interests in, make spatial analyses, add their own comments in variable formats, and so on. GIS has been proved to be an efficient technology, and the ever-increasing Internet, especially www, gives the possibility of efficient participation. In this paper, the authors give a clear definition of GIS Services and its application mode in forest management and the bi-directional characteristic of participatory GIS Services is emphasized, which is different from the traditional Web GIS. This is made operational and tested for a forest management scheme in Nan´an county, Fujian province
