Abstract
A multiscan approach is presented for improvement of adaptive detection performance in dual polarized radar systems. The method provides both mean and covariance estimation of the polarization statistics of background clutter and interference. This work extends the concept of the coherent clutter map to include suppression of clutter fluctuations as well as the mean component. Optimum and adaptive performance of both single channel and dual polarized systems are analyzed and compared
