Abstract :
An error-resilient video coding scheme using multiple description coding (MDC) is presented. MDC is an effective approach to combat packet losses in the Internet and wireless networks. This proposed scheme employs multiple description lattice vector quantization with channel optimization (MDLVQ-CO). MDLVQ-CO introduces two translated lattices for side descriptions to reduce the distortion for high-loss erasure channels. The central codebook is locally optimized according to channel erasure statistics. Simulation results show that this coder achieves both higher PSNR and better perceptual quality and it can easily adapt to the varying channel conditions.
