Abstract
The Diplom-Ingenieur, the German degree for higher engineering education has served now for nearly 100 years with an excellent reputation world-wide. The Diplom-Ingenieur is world-wide known and it transfers an association of the high standard of German education, science, goods and products. Nevertheless it seems that because of the European harmonisation and the world-wide education market new structures are required. In the following the present status, the considerations, and the future steps that are to be taken are discussed.
