Abstract :
One of the major challenges for next-generation mobile systems is to achieve efficient mobility management in next generation wireless networks. To track host mobility, Mobile IP setup a tunnel between the Home Agent and the Mobile Node. This paper proposes a new architecture called LinkWork Mobile MPLS which takes advantage of MPLS traffic engineering capability, to achieve fast-reroute when a mobile node change its point of attachment to the network. Moreover, service disruption during handoffs cause excessive packet loss that needs to be minimized to support quality of service requirements of emerging applications. Analytical models are provided to derive registration signaling cost and packet loss rate. Additionally, numerical results are obtained to justify the benefits of our proposed architecture.
