Abstract
The rapid expansion of wireless sensor networks technology has created an unprecedented opportunity to gather and extract information from wireless sensor networks. How to gather sensed information in energy efficient way is critical problems recently. Clustering technique has been proven to be an effective approach for data-gathering in wireless sensor networks. However, in a mobile environment, the dynamic topology poses the challenge to design an algorithm for data-gathering. In this paper, we propose a novel cluster formation algorithm, namely PPD algorithm according to considering the energy consumption as an optimization parameter. The proposed algorithm has a sensor node select a proper cluster-head to join for cluster formation by considering the impact of node mobility. Compared to the ILP algorithm, our algorithm increase the cluster head election mechanism and the simulation results show that PPD algorithm achieves its intention of consuming less energy, equalizing the energy consumption of all the nodes, as well as extending the network lifetime perfectly.
