  • Abstract
    A novel technology, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS), has been introduced in the power system. This technology could increase the transmission capability, control the power flow, and enhance the transient stability of the system effectively. Due to the injection of the FACTS components, the line parameters of the transmission system will be changed. So the power system protection relay´s operation will be influenced. This paper investigates the digital simulation model of the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC), which is the most vigorous component of FACTS. The relevant computer programs are developed, and the operations of traditional protection relay in FACTS are analyzed and tested
