Abstract :
Personal satellite communications is constrained by both bandwidth and power, with mobility requirements demanding compact, low cost and highly efficient user terminal equipment, whilst system capacity requirements demand an efficient usage of the limited satellite bandwidth available. This paper describes a bandwidth efficient modulation (BEM) scheme that combines power and bandwidth efficiency for multi-user communication over a satellite channel. Results of initial performance tests generated using a modem simulator are presented, illustrating the effect of frequency and timing errors on the working of the scheme.
