  • Abstract
In the fast growing market of multimedia networks and services, acceptance-and hence commercial success-of a system will largely be determined by the quality, flexibility and extendibility of the services offered by it. This paper outlines the role an operator of a (public) network can play in offering multimedia services. It introduces the Level 1 Gateway as a means for the network operator to enter the services business. The target multimedia network provides a managed end-to-end switched, interactive service using broadband (ATM) technology
