Abstract
This paper introduces a new multilevel converter topology. Its modular construction allows it to be scalable to different voltage and power levels. It has a multi-input structure allowing it to integrate power from a high power ac network, a high power dc network, and a multitude of lower voltage distributed dc sources. Possible applications of the topology include hybrid vehicles, electrical energy storage systems or distributed generation systems. The converter is developed starting from the well-known cascaded H-bridge topology. A simulation case study is presented to demonstrate feasibility of the concept.
