Abstract :
This paper addresses the performance assessment of the marginal spectrum in Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT). We define a measure for assessing the resolution performance difference between HHT marginal spectrum and Fourier frequency spectrum instead of relying on visual inspection of its plot. The measure employs the key characteristics of spectrum, such as relative bandwidth for energy concentration measure about the signal frequency in the case of a single-tone signal, and the minimum frequency difference of two components for separation measure in the case of a composite two-tones signal. Numerical experiments show that the HHT marginal spectrum can increase not only the concentration the HHT marginal spectrum attains about the frequency components but the separation as well.
