Abstract :
A low-cost microstrip antenna array is studied for mobile broadband systems at 30GHz. It contains four sectorial sub-arrays in a pyramid configuration and each cover about 65° in the horizontal plane, and four sharp beams in the vertical plane. Dual linear orthogonal polarisation is used and the isolation between Tx/Rx channels is about 25dB. For the first time, Photonic Band Gap (PBG) structures are applied to the design of microstrip diplexer patch antenna to enhance the isolation between Tx and Rx ports. The array is implemented and measured; experimental results show very good agreement with theoretical predictions.
