Abstract :
Surface wave phenomena of metamaterials are studied numerically and experimentally. A periodic 2D μ-negative metamaterial is implemented in a planar circuit board with an interface to a double positive (DPS) material, and its dispersion characteristics are obtained numerically and experimentally. It is shown that the surface wave exhibits a slow wave effect which directly corresponds to natural SNG materials. In addition, a metamaterial surface wave resonator is fabricated and the resonant characteristics are measured at a microwave frequency. The experimental resonant frequencies agree well with the dispersion characteristics and the surface wave phenomenon of metamaterials is confirmed.
