  • Abstract
The charge sharing technique is well known and widely used for low-power consumption in TFT-LCDs. However, it does not work so well as the screen size becomes larger and the frame frequency and display format become higher. The theoretical power saving efficiency can reach 50%, but, for a 55-in diagonal Full-HD format LCD TV, it drops below 30%. In order to address the degraded power saving efficiency of the conventional charge sharing technique for large-screen high-format LCD TVs, we propose a novel charge sharing technique with a panel design and a driving method. The proposed charge sharing technique enhances the power saving efficiency up to 43% from the previous 28% even for a large-screen LCD TV such as the 55-in diagonal Full-HD format. In particular, the proposed technique is found to be well suited for the oxide-TFT technology, which is very promising for next-generation large-screen LCD TVs.
