Abstract :
Market demands on ATM backbone and mobile access networks will continue to grow and emerge rapidly. In this paper, we focus on ATM transmission over wireless channels, i.e., wireless ATM. Since wireless channels are shared media in general, finding an efficient multiple media access (MAC) scheme and the corresponding traffic control algorithm is a major challenge. For that purpose, we propose a bursty transmission scheme for the multimedia transmission in wireless ATM. It is based upon a subframe structure where CBR traffic is served on a quasi-STM basis in the highest priority and, at the same time, VBR traffic is given a higher priority over ABR traffic in accessing the remaining time slots; i.e., the consecutive VBR cells (in burst) are allowed to preferentially occupy the successive remaining time slots in a subframe. Since the cell arrivals in ATM networks are typically bursty, we next develop a queueing model of MMBP1+MMBP2 /D/s(m1,m2) with Markov modulated Bernoulli process (MMBP) inputs and nonpreemptive priority for the proposed control scheme and present an exact discrete-time analysis to it
