The construction industry has been troubled by its low productivity, one of the fundamental reasons behind the phenomenon is that there are so many non value-adding activities in the design-construction process. This paper first concludes main categories of non value-adding activities and then introduces what is building information modeling (BIM) and its main functions, based on that, the paper finally analyzes how BIM can improve the value chain by reducing the non-value adding activities.
