Abstract :
The Institute of Energy (InstE), has been praised by the Engineering Council Audit Panel for its innovative and progressive work in the area of Matching Sections. It is still one of only four (InstE, IMarE, IMechE and IIE) engineering institutions licensed to accredit and approve Matching Sections and, as such, it has been involved in the pioneering activity necessary to reach the stage where Matching Sections are now a reality in Universities. The Institute of Energy´s different experiences of accrediting and approving Matching Sections and working with universities and individuals to achieve SARTOR´s benchmark requirements, demonstrate that flexibility and co-operation are keys to success in this area. Whilst SARTOR´s standards must be adhered to, there is room for innovation and creativity in course design and delivery. This must come from co-operation between universities, professional bodies, industry and individuals, in order to ensure that the learning experience provided by a Matching Section truly prepares graduates for employment.
