Abstract
Dr. R. W. Bass is one of the pioneers in the development of the modern control theory. Some of his fundamental contributions including the Bass-Roth theorem, the GASP program for synthesizing the Kalman filter, the Bass-Gura formula, a preliminary result anticipating the maximum principle, and the Bass-Norum-Schwartz filter are briefly reviewed. His role in the celebrated RIAS Mathematics and Control groups is briefly reminisced
