Abstract :
The paper studies the performance of a UMTS system using a code-spread CS-CDMA scheme with the aim of improving both uplink and downlink performances. This scheme employs low rate partitioned turbo super-orthogonal codes alone for achieving the bandwidth expansion. Additionally, a scrambling code with no spreading is used for distinguishing simultaneous users. Modifications to the current UMTS structure in order to accommodate this new scheme are also discussed. To evaluate and compare the performances of the actual DS-CDMA scheme and the proposed CS-CDMA scheme, a stand-alone simulator was built and the results are presented and discussed.
