Abstract
The increasing use of multimedia communication applications is exhausting the resources of communication networks, such as bandwidth and buffers. It has become very important to efficiently allocate network resources based on the required quality of service provided by a network. This paper proposes a dual priority queue algorithm which allocates and schedules the buffer resources of an ATM switch. The algorithm makes the network meet the scales of user quality of service requirements, such as communication delay or loss rate, and keeps a high utilization of network resources. Simulation results and analysis of the algorithm are also discussed to show the efficiency of the algorithm
