Abstract
We introduce a method using fuzzy similarity (equivalence) and tolerance (compatibility) relations, that allows the “concentric” extension of searches based on the hierarchical co-occurrence of words and phrases. This is to solve the problem of automatic indexing and retrieval of documents where user queries may not include any words occurring in the documents that should be retrieved. Various methods are proposed and illustrated, with the intention of real application in legal document collections
