Abstract :
The problem of the current distribution and input impedance of a circular loop antenna in the form of an infinitesimally thin, perfectly conducting narrow strip coiled into a ring is considered. The antenna is located on the surface of an axially magnetized plasma column and is excited by a time-harmonic external voltage. The problem is reduced to a system of integral equations for the current. On the basis of solutions of these equations, the kernels of which have logarithmic and Cauchy singularities, it is shown that the presence of a plasma column can significantly influence the current distribution and input impedance of the antenna compared with the case of its location in free space or a homogeneous magnetoplasma the parameters of which coincide with those inside the column.
