Abstract :
MRI studies have revealed that athletes who sustain non-contact injury to the anterior cruciate ligament develop a larger convexity of the lateral tibial plateau than normal. To evaluate ACL elongation due to variations in lateral tibial convexity, a 3D mathematical knee model was developed and used to perform a sensitivity study. The simulation results demonstrated that when the intercondylar tubercule became 1 mm higher than normal, strain on the ACL increased by about 20%
