Abstract
Asymptotic techniques fit to engineering EM problems on complex objects reaching hundreds or thousands wavelengths square. Gaussian beam techniques for tracking fields may overcome some of the limitations inherent to the ray method, such as caustics or computation of a huge number of rays for complex scenes. For high-frequency, the physical optics (PO) approximation may be one of the most appropriate technique to describe the fields radiated by an elementary square surface illuminated by a vector Gaussian beam. Using asymptotic techniques, we derive an analytical expression of the radiated fields. The results are compared with a PO numerical integration and a Method of Moments.
