Abstract
We consider the problem of minimizing the L1 norm of a closed-loop transfer function while keeping its H2 norm under at a specified level. It is shown that the optimal closed-loop impulse response has finite support, and thus a non-rational Laplace transform. To solve this difficulty we propose a method for synthesizing rational controllers with performance arbitrarily close to optimal
