Abstract
A method to include on-line dynamic security assessment in optimum dispatch operation of power system is presented. This methodology possesses a number of innovative features. First, the formulation extends the conventional static security constrained OPF programs to include consideration of the dynamic security level of the on-line states. A dynamic security monitor and a preventive control module are introduced to form a complete static and dynamic security constrained OPF scheme. The concept of security in power system operation is expanded to include dynamic contingency prevention that could lead to a complete system collapse. It is envisaged that the incorporation of the transient security dispatch would contribute to improving operational security with due consideration of economy of operation
