Abstract
In this paper, a hybrid excitation synchronous machine is examined. The structure and operating principle of this hybrid excited machine are first described. The construction of a prototype, aiming to validate the hybrid excitation principle, is then presented. This machine is modeled using both 3D finite element (3D FEA) method and a magnetic equivalent circuit (MEC) model. Finally, the open circuit flux control capability and the validity of developed models are demonstrated via comparison with measurements.
