Abstract :
Modern wireless communication transmit systems require power efficient and linear power amplifiers. This paper investigates different topologies of power processing systems applied to EDGE and WLAN systems, based on envelope elimination and restoration (EER). The analysis takes into account the power distribution of the signals, the the power dissipated at the source and the output power. By comparing the power processing systems, assuming the power amplifier as the load impedance, the most suitable topology is determined. The results indicate power efficiency above 50% and 32% for EDGE and WLAN systems respectively over a wide output power range.
