Abstract :
The authors describe a new computational tool, called NH2, for composite reliability evaluation. The system state selection methodology is based on successive enumeration or Monte Carlo simulation. The system performance analysis is carried out by an algorithm that includes: state configuration, pre-solution, solution, monitoring and a specially designed LP-based remedial actions model. The approach is illustrated in case studies with a 660-bus system derived from the Brazilian Southern/Southeastern (SSE) system. It is shown that composite outages have a substantial share in the SSE system. The program can be run on standard PC microcomputers
