Abstract :
Traditionally oscillators are designed using computer aided design (CAD) tools where small signal analysis techniques are employed. The disadvantage of this approach is that the predicted response may not be accurate and much time has to be devoted to tuning the circuits on the workbench. Recent advances in nonlinear computer oriented design software significantly improves the accuracy for design by using harmonic balance techniques. This paper illustrates the design of a low power consumption voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) using nonlinear computer aided design software. Excellent agreement between the simulation and measurement is achieved
