Abstract :
ASR-PET (Animal Stationary Ring PET) - a small ring PET system, which includes scanner, front-end electronics, software for data acquisition, analysis, and reconstruction was constructed at our laboratory. The diameter of ASR-PET is 280mm and the effective field of view is 165mm (transaxial) by 20mm (axial) without septa. The detectors consist 2.6mm × 2.6mm × 25mm BGO crystals coupled to a position sensitive photomultiplier tube. The front-end electronics with time and position lookup tables were designed and manufactured. Data acquisition and gantry control are based on CAMAC modules and a personal computer. Frame-mode 3D data with prompt/delayed, primary/scattered energy information is stored in a histogram memory module and then being sent to a pc for further processing. Software for the system operation, data acquisition, analysis, image reconstruction, and image display are implemented on a WindowsNT-based PC. The main features and performance of this system are presented.
