Abstract :
A flexible and efficient internal communications network, termed the Operations Systems Network (OSN), is described that will be used by the Bell Operating Companies (BOCs) for communication network support. A description is given of the OSN target architecture, which will be layered, standardized, and vendor-independent and will use the BOCs´ own resources such as the integrated services digital network (ISDN), intelligent network (IN), and other plant facilities. Such an architecture would allow technology independence and the ability to exploit the economic benefits of the latest engineering improvements.<>
