Abstract
A generic active array radar system is defined, and a brief functional description of the subsystems presented. For comparison, two contemporary conceptual views of optically controlled arrays are discussed, and the transition to a more realistic architecture model is described. Several proposed photonic antenna systems from the current literature are critiqued with respect to the model
