Abstract
This paper presents Firefly Algorithm (FA) optimized classical controllers such as Integral (I), Proportional-Integral (PI), Integral-Derivative (ID) and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) for Load Frequency Problem (LFC). Initially, a equal two area reheat thermal interconnected power system is considered and the gains of the different classical controllers are optimized using an Integral of Time multiplied Absolute value of Error (ITAE) criterion. The simulation results reveals that PID controller provides better dynamic response compared to others. Finally, the robustness of PID controller is investigated by incorporating Time Delay (TD) in the system and for the variation of Step Load Perturbation (SLP). It is observed from the simulation results that the proposed PID controller can withstand changes made in the system for the same optimal values.
