Abstract :
A high torque variable speed motor using the magnetic circuit concept is described in This work. The design of the motor is such that a cycloconverter is accompanied, which allows control for the wide range of speed variability as well as a very high starting torque with a moderate starting current. The magnetic circuit design of the machine would be such that the rotor is simply a piece of magnetic steel with appropriately machined slots. The details of the magnetic circuit are discussed in detail.
