Abstract
Wireless Voice over IP (WVoIP) has been popular in many important voice communication areas such as home, office, battle field and earthquake or disaster relief. Quality of Service (QoS) and security are two important issues which determine the success of WVoIP. Compared with QoS issues, security issues of WVoIP are rarely addressed. Denial of Service (DoS) attacks are major security issues for WVoIP, which not only degrade voice call quality, but also disconnect active calls and prevent making new calls. In this paper, we extensively study WVoIP performances under two DoS attacks of Authentication Request Flooding (AuthRF) and Association Request Flooding (AssRF). One major contribution of this paper is that we propose and demonstrate solutions to resolve DoS attacks on WVoIP. Another contribution is an experimental framework to emulate the DoS attacking process and to study its effects on WVoIP.
