Abstract
Application service interfaces suitable for emerging applications are crucial to the success of future high performance communication systems. New service models do not have to closely follow the traditional concepts adopted in the description of current transport service interfaces. The paper presents a service interface using a novel set of parameters that can reflect the application requirements in fine granular terms of quality and quantity. The notion of connection is not used to categorize the service, thus allowing a wider and more flexible range of transport service characteristics.<>
