Software for broadband systems: an ISDN based approach

It is shown that the existing implementation of ISDN software can be used for an STM based B-ISDN system. The control of broadband services required an enhancement of the D-channel protocol and consequently, modifications in the control software. It should be emphasized that, compared to software efforts typical in telecommunication control systems, the approach to base the broadband switch on a commercial ISDN exchange made only slight modifications of the existing ISDN supporting software necessary, following the trend to reuse tested and efficient software
